Umoja chiefs took part in repainting of Umoja primary school, which is their training ground. Umoja primary has now a new fresh look courtesy of HoN. Theuri the enthusiastic MP who also facilitated acquisition of the field after he learnt about young men had passion for the sport of AMERICAN FOOTBALL in his backyard.
The Embakasi west community was largely invited to take part in the activity where hundreds of people turned up most who were lads and few parents that came to support the exercise.

“Education is the foundation of everyone’s life and kids need a conducive environment to build their knowledge. The painting is part of us helping out to beautify the school, though not the last as we are a society that loves to give. As for the American football, I like what the guys are doing, considering it’s a new sport in the country and building it to competitive level shows their capability. Therefore we will support them to see teams emerge within and build a strong competitive team for Embakasi west constituency.”
The enthusiastic players led by Fidel odhiambo (captain) and Derrick Odhier-Biggy (club-Treasure) organized for paint brushes and paint and took over first class rooms. As others joined chiefs had covered a vast area as they early birds that day.

This was highly applauded effort from the community leaders and Head teacher who acknowledged the team’s presence and its handwork not only to play the game of football but to build a strong and reliable society.
Fidel captain “It’s good to be part of a society that gives, we had fun to painting and the games were fun as well. We promote Christian values in our team and the sport as a tool of social change.”
In addition there were several organized groups that came out to support the project. However Eagles mothers carried the day led by Cynthia (Mama G). After the paint job, they also took part in challenging games against Umojachiefs. This ranged from tag of war, dancing, suck race, bottle rely etc. They were aggressive, competitive with a strong mentality as the chiefs who left nothing to chance. Eagles mothers won a few of the challenges but CHIEFS kept winning and in the end, they bagged 80 points of the totally 100 while the eagles mothers trailed with 60 points.

Thereafter chiefs did show case how flag football is played to hundreds of spectators. Most of them were mesmerized by the beauty of the game and how it’s an easy sport to learn and interesting to play. Majority of the young men promised to join as from Tuesday 17th may, even the area MP signed up to be training with chiefs ones in a while. This the way to develop the sport across the existing teams.
A flag football tournament will be organized to promote the sport in schools within Embakasi west. Principals and head teachers from school around learnt it’s a sport of both genders and kids enjoyed playing during the demo.
MR. Mwangi Head teacher Umoja primary had this to say when he was interviewed
“Am proud of Umojachiefs, have shown us more than we thought they could do. They train our kids and give guidance to them as well. They have built a team for us. Pupils here love them and are always eager to play flag football in the evening, its good we have them around and our kids can look at them as role models.”
