On 24th October, the university of Nairobi American football team (MIGHTY NYATI) did host their bitter rivals Jomo Kenyatta university team (JKUAT SPARROWS) for a cancer campaign game. It was a well contested day as home fans were first given speeches and presentations about cancer awareness and ways to avoid it. This was solely organized to sensitize the community and players about the illness.
JKUAT Sparrow had the heads high as memories of their previous win was still fresh in their minds, because the last time the two teams met in this arena JKUAT clinched their first victory over Mighty Nyati.
On the other hand Mighty Nyati was ready to redeem their lost glory to hundreds of fans at home. Therefore, before kickoff both teams were confident about the game and were on equal measures of winning.
This was a highly tensed game. At the end of First quarter the visitors were on the lead with 12 -0. The second quarter was more interesting with either side not giving away points. The first half of the game ended with Sparrows still on the lead.
After the break the third and fourth quarters were all testosterone charged with a gain both sides fighting for a win. Mighty Nyati failed to convert 3 perfect complete pass from their quarterback for points instead they were held for a turnover. The visitors took advantage of the home team to drive two runs for 12 more points with two point conventions to seal sweet victory. JKUAT Sparrows won 26 to nil.
“We know they have the best defense in the league and great offense as well but we didn’t let that get into our heads. We put up a good fight and stayed bind to the end.” Said Felix quarterback JKUAT. He also added, “My team was ready psychologically to receive hard hits and am pleased we have done it again at their home ground. Our fight doesn’t end today and we will continue playing to our level best, let all other opponents know we aren’t stopping at anything.”
Tony Okello quarterback Mighty Nyati had this to say. “We played good today, we had some good plays that were well executed. I totally can’t tell why we couldn’t get on the scoreboard or win the home game. I know we will have our moment in the next meeting as we have to go back to the drawing board.”
